What is an ITO Coating?

What is an ITO Coating?

Manufactured from varying amounts of Indium, Tin and Oxide (ITO) coatings are a transparent conducting oxide that can be applied to film, glass, polyester, polycarbonate, acrylic, and plastic substrates. Applied by a vacuum deposit process, ITO coatings have high electrical and optical properties.

What is ITO Coating used for?

It may surprise you to know that ITO Coatings are used frequently in many applications, which you will have probably used on a daily basis.

The transport, medical, aerospace, military, and entertainment industries have long used ITO coatings for optoelectronic devices and components such as:

  • Lamps
  • Plasma & LCD Displays.
  • Touch/Control Panels
  • ‘Hot Mirrors’ (using infrared coatings)
  • EMI/RFI Shielding
  • Windows & Gas sensors.

DIAMOX ITO Coating (Custom or Index+Matched)

The DIAMOX ITO Coating is the perfect solution and offers a multitude of different options across many industries.

By exhibiting consistent electrical conductivity and positive optical transparency than other doped metal oxides, the DIAMOX ITO Coating is available with sheet resistance from 2.5-1500ohms/square in sheet sizes up to 1000mmxx1000mm.

Diamond Coatings can supply fully machined glass and plastic parts and an ITO coatings service is available for free issue parts.

Efficient in preventing and minimising RFI, EMI, and ESD (Frequency/Electro Magnetic Interface & Electro-Static Discharge) effects with a respective shielding effectiveness of 58dB & 26dB at 1MH & 1GH. The Diamox ITO Coating can also boost electronic devices’ reception and overall performance.

Additionally, DIAMOX Coatings can be combined with the following:

  • Easily applied to flat and shaped surfaces and injection moulded parts
  • Precision etched to generate thin conductor paths or patterns and customer bespoke requests.
  • Combined with other coatings such as anti-reflective, special, optical and/or hard coatings for product-led bespoke solutions.
